Day 4 – beach time!

It’s been almost a year since we’ve seen my great and wonderful friend from High School back in Wisconsin. We’re so blessed to still have her in our lives and capture amazing photos of us as she is now a photographer in Savannah, GA! How amazing is this trip where we get to see so many people that we haven’t seen for a while, AND get to meet some of our Chromosome 18 family?

I woke up at 6am to get Brit, Leina, and Ryan ready to head out to the beach for pictures with Emily. My goodness did we have a great time, considering how early we were up! I was worried I’d have attitude and bad moods…I had the opposite and it was a huge blessing! I was hoping to get a haircut for Ryan before we were to get our pictures taken with Emily – but it didn’t happen.

IMG_20130727_085322_596[1]The beach was empty when we got there – other than a few people enjoying a morning jog. I took Ryan’s shoes, braces, and socks off while Britney and Leina ran ahead to get started in the sand. As I tried to put Ryan down in the sand, he kept his feet and legs up, not wanting to feel the sand between his toes…boy was he missing out – but once his feet hit the sand, he loved it and couldn’t get enough. Within the first 10 minutes, his face was covered with sand.

He loved playing with the foam that the waves kept bring in. I’m sure it reminded him of his bubble baths he loves so much. He made himself at home and took a seat – on the sand, in the water. It was awesome! (Note the sarcasm – we weren’t done with pictures yet!) Ryan loved trying to chase the seagulls that were hanging out on the beach, I’m sure taking a break from following the shrimp boats in the water.

There was even yellow caution tape in two different areas – later I was told there were turtle nests that they were waiting to be hatched behind that tape. Had I known that, I would have checked it out myself!! Bummer. Maybe we’ll have to go back – if there’s time!

While Emily was taking Ryan’s picture, the girls were finding sea shells. When she was taking Brit’s picture, Ryan was finding sticks and digging in the sand. I loved seeing the kids happy and excited and was in awe of the beauty of our surroundings. What a great morning!

We spent about an hour on the beach and then headed out – just in time for the weather to get more humid and the parking filled up. After a stop at the store to get a few things we wanted for the hotel and breakfast/lunch, we were on our way back to the hotel. It didn’t take long for the girls to be back in the pool, Ryan playing with his toys and reading books, and Emily and I catching up. Why does she have to be in Georgia and not closer to Wisconsin?
By 1230, Emily was off onto the next thing on her list of things to do that day and Ryan and I were down for a nap for a few hours.  It was so welcomed and needed!  As I woke up, I heard the voice of Lillian! I peeked out the peep hole of the hotel room and didn’t see anyone. I heard her again! Then Mr. Thomas – so I peeked out the balcony door. Author of D iz for Different,  Camilla Downs and her kiddos were sharing a balcony with us. What a blessing to have a veteran conference goer right next door!

On the way back, we passed a place for Ryan to get his haircut – and my goodness did he get one! My handsome boy isn’t so shaggy anymore. Back at the hotel, Britney packed her bag for a sleep over at Leinas – the first time in over 5 years! Only Ryan and I for the night, it was a night of rest and sleep and hopefully a peaceful one!

The morning would bring a whole bunch of excitement for the start of the conference, new friends, new connections, new faces, and lots to learn!
